Parents of
Special Needs
During my tenure as a school based occupational therapist, I had the privilege of working with students on the autism spectrum and other classifications. While this role was immensely rewarding, supporting these students' parents was equally so. I saw firsthand the love and devotion these parents gave to their child on a daily basis. I also witnessed the toll it often takes on parents as individuals, and on the marital relationship as a unit. Unfortunately, many couples/marriages disintegrate under the cumulative stress of raising a child with special needs. Even though I was serving in the role of occupational therapist at the time, I felt that my foundational social worker/psychotherapist skill sets were fully engaged and brought to the fore. Currently, I am able to offer formal psychotherapy services to single parents of these wonderful children. I am humbled to offer individual therapy to their neurodivergent teen/adult children as well.
